In June 2022, Speaker Slam® was featured on AMI-TV through the documentary series Breaking Character.
During the pandemic, Speaker Slam® was one of the few organizations still running live, in-person competitions, and a filmmaker and producer reached out to co-founder Dan Shaikh. The timing lined up with the 2021 Body Beautiful competition, held in person in Toronto, and performer Dan Barra-Berger took the Speaker Slam® stage as part of his episode.
About Breaking Character
Breaking Character explores disability representation through the eyes of six performers with disabilities trying to make it onto the screen, stage, comedy club circuit, and runway. The candid 10-part serial documentary captures the journey of these mould-breaking performers as they navigate the fast-paced and sometimes cutthroat entertainment industry.
