Meet the Speakers for Youth Speaker Slam: Courage 2019

Every Speaker Slam® competition brings a new lineup of voices to the stage. On April 14, 2019 at CSI Annex, Toronto, 10 speakers competed on the theme of Youth Speaker Slam: Courage.

Meet the speakers below. See how the night ended in the results.


Angelina Tropper

Angelina Tropper

Age: 11

Angelina Tropper is an 11-year-old student from Canada who loves to sing, dance and play the piano. She is the founder of the youth group TCGE (The Care Gift Elves), which helps students give back to the community and spread kindness. Angelina sees herself as an activist and advocate. She writes a blog. One of her posts was published in the Ontario Association of Learning Disabilities website and also published by the Malala Fund blog and translated into many different languages. Her post was featured as one of the 2018 highlights of the Malala Fund blog in girls' education.

Fatima Sultan

Fatima Sultan

Age: 10

Fatima Sultan and her sister are Canada’s youngest social entrepreneurs at the ages of 10 and 8. They have been keynote speakers in over 16 university events, conferences and startup competitions across Toronto including Dragon's Den auditions. They run an online art store ( www.twosistersonamission.com ) with a mission to bring the stories, the struggles and the talent of artists from remote parts of the world to life. Fatima believes the world will not change if we all wait for others to act. The bond their share with their artists is that of love and deep respect.

Age: 16

Please give a round of applause for Fiona Pavlovska! Fiona is a 16 year old who has extensive dreams about her future. Despite being on the short side, she is as confident as a bungee jumper jumping into a cave. But that confidence never started like that. She has face tremendous difficulties in her life ( well at least for a teenager) that changed her as a person. But today she will be talking about how she used these expiereces as a life learned lesson. Please focus your glasses as she is very short Fiona Pavlovska!

Georgie Tsiolis

Age: 16

Georgie is a 16 year old who finds enjoyment in reading, hanging out with friends, and playing video-games. He plays on his school's soccer team, and is a two-time provincial level debater.

Kylah Triffo

Kylah Triffo

Age: 13

Since she was 5, Kylah Triffo has loved interpreting wildlife and nature. With a baby corn snake named “Orange Blossom”, for example, she encouraged adults and other children to respect and protect life and ecology. Today, at 13 Kylah envisions infinite new horizons for her future, and indeed also, for the future of all humanity. She aspires to be an inspirational activist, consolidating with her generation toward Earth-friendly sustainability, by wasting less, conserving more, and founding advanced civil stewardship of a global environment every human being can actually love living in. She aims to address many important world issues that are presently so popularly, impassively dismissed. She's a ‘leader-girl’ who chooses not stay quiet about significant matters of priority, and she’s acutely aware of the courage and moxie she must muster to make a positive, selfless, broad-minded difference among today’s highly factious and anthropocentric cosmopolitan populous.

Palak Agarwal

Palak Agarwal

Age: 15

Although she is only 15, Palak Agarwal already has many visions for this world. Palak aspires to be an influential entrepreneur where she aims to address important world issues that are being ignored in the present day. Palak is the kind of girl who chooses to stay quiet even if she could have millions of wonderful ideas running through her mind. Palak considers the topic of courage very close to her heart because she had to apply it to various events in her life at an extremely young age. After all, courage is what will bring her to this stage!

Serena Ge

Age: 14

Looking at her past, she had always been this small, strange girl. Why is she throwing rocks in the lake? And now, why is she starting to cry??? She sees what many don't. She's witnessed too many instances when humans are sadistic, abusing animals for the fun of it. Just like this time, her uncle is joyfully hooking fish from the water and putting them back wounded. However, having been through all of that, she now stands here today with the courage to trust others, and also herself. Come listen to her story and get ready to be inspired.

He always strives to grow, develop, and apply public speaking skills, professionalism, confidence, and leadership to real-life situations in order to constantly make himself into a better character.
