Catalyst: Stories That Started Something

Speaker Slam® held Catalyst online on March 23, 2022. Fifty-five speakers from Canada and the US entered, and the Top 10 who moved forward brought their A game to the virtual stage.

The night was full of honest, personal stories, from a pink slip at lunch to a plane ticket to India to a friend handing over a book in a coffee shop. The judges had a tough call to make.

1st Place: Anesh Daya

Edupreneur, Author, Proud Father

Anesh took the stage with the story of the day his director invited him to lunch, then slid a termination notice across the table because new rules required ESL teachers to hold a university degree. A head teacher in Toronto and the son of immigrant parents, he has gone on to equip thousands of English language learners to use language to break barriers and build bridges.

2nd Place: Jonathan Glass

Healer, Doctor, Author

Jonathan shared a journey that began in a Paris ashram and led to a ticket from Rome to Calcutta, despite weeks of second-guessing. His message is simple: listen to the inner voice that leads to greater health and happiness.

3rd Place: Lisa Kelly

Mentor In The Art of Living Your Dreams

Lisa spoke about the morning a friend passed her a copy of the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book in a Starbucks, and the inner voice that asked how she would keep drinking as her young son grew up. Getting sober, and leaving a career to run her own business and stay home with her son, became two of the most important choices of her life.
