Forgiveness: A Night of Powerful Storytelling

Between 50 and 60 speakers entered Speaker Slam®'s Forgiveness competition, and on August 18, 2021 the Top 10 competed in the online finals.

Forgiveness is one of the hardest themes a speaker can choose. The finalists spoke about the people who hurt them, the parents they adored and the long road between the two.

1st Place: Marlee Liss

Restorative Justice Advocate, Sensual Reclamation Coach, Author

Marlee opened in the room where she sat face to face with the man who raped her and heard him say, "I'm sorry I sexually assaulted you." Her case became the first in North America to conclude with restorative justice through the courts, and she has since coached hundreds of women internationally.

2nd Place: Marjorie Aunos

Marjorie spoke about her dad, her biggest cheerleader, who sat beside her every day at the piano and drilled her until her fingers could play without thinking. At eight years old she was ranked fourth in the province of Quebec. Two months later, Marjorie went on to win Personal Power 2021.

3rd Place: Kristin Light

Creator | Strategist | Entrepreneur

Kristin also spoke about her father and the music that filled her childhood home, from the family band to his treasured vinyl collection she was terrified to scratch. A Toronto-based entrepreneur and vintage swing dancer, Kristin returned the next month to win Body Beautiful 2021.
